The Jordon Group are delighted to announce that works are now complete on Gowy Service Station in Chester and the site is officially open.

The site has been in development for several weeks but the hard work has most certainly paid off as the results are very impressive.

Full redevelopment was carried out by the Jordon Group and includes a BP forecourt, a Spar, a Subway with seating area, a cash machine, convenience store and parking.

Handford Service Station

After weeks of hard work the Jordon Group are delighted to announce the opening of Handford Service Station in Stoke.

Like many of Euro Garages' developments, the Jordon Group are honoured to be the exclusive shop fitters for Handford Service Station .

Euro Garages is one of the UK's largest privately-owned forecourt operators. Each year, Euro Garages distribute across an expanding portfolio of approximately 70 sites located in the North of England and Midlands and have a turnover of £285m and 1,000 employees.

The project involved full redevelopment of the petrol forecourt and convenience store which features a Subway, Costa Coffee Bar, a Spar and a cash machine. Shop fitting : Top tips for success

Retail shop fitting can be a daunting process. There are so many factors to consider such as lighting, signage, colour, branding, shelving, flooring, customer flow; the list seems endless. This article highlights the top tips to getting shop fitting right first time.

If you are starting out for the first time or even if you have many stores under your belt, shop fitting can be a very daunting process. Your number one aim is to attract customers into your store. Once they are in there you want them to link buy products, and then return again. This may sound like 1,2,3 but the reality is - first you have to attract customers into the store and then make it a very pleasant experience in order for them to buy and return.

The top tips for sucess when embarking on shop fitting for your store are:

Access. If the location of your store has parking this is a plus point. Be sure that all entrances are clearly marked and are easily accessable. Automatic sliding doors are advantageous for customers such as mothers with babies, elderly or those in wheelchairs.
Signage. Store signs are the fundamental responsibility for directing customers into your store. Branding, logo and colour are essential here as the store must be visually appealing in order to attract custom.
Store layout. Once the customer is inside the store they need to be able to find what they are looking for and more often than not they need to be able to do this fast. Your store must be planned and laid out precisely in order to capture the customer from the outset and guide them successfully around the entire store. The Jordon Group have recently completed an entire fit-out on the latest Euro Garages development. The Uttoxeter service station off the A50 on Derby Road, opened its doors in November and is attracting an impressive footfall already.

The super modern site encorporates and filling station, a Subway, a Starbucks and a drive through Burger King - taking a 'quick stop' to a whole new level. The Jordon Group - Charity Work

As a company, we continually provide help to worthy causes where we can. We have helped many charities to date, including Macmillan, The Christie cancer care hospital and Dr Kershaws Hospice Oldham to name but a few.

This time we chose to help Children in Need and Tree House children's unit at Stepping Hill Hospital.

For Children in Need we had a "bake off" where our very kind members of staff donned their pinnies and baked the most delicious cup cakes to be sold at our head office in Oldham! The money we raised was then donated to Children in Need.

For the Tree House children's unit at Stepping Hill Hospital, one of our staff members joined his residents' association in Woodley, Greater Manchester and raised more than £400 with a carol singing expedition over Christmas. The residents association first started singing and collecting donations for the Tree House children's unit in 1999. Since then they have raised £4,045 and have helped to purchase vital pieces of equipment for the children's unit.

Our fund raising work continues throughout 2012 and we hope to make a small difference to those less fortunate.

Why not start the New Year with a new look for your store?

Jordon's Bright Benefits of LED Lighting

First discovered in 1907 by the British experimenter H. J. Round, Light Emitting Diodes are now big business - becoming more commonly used and fast replacing incandescent and fluorescent lighting. Although LED's command a higher initial capital cost, such costs are being outweighed by the advancing benefits.

Advantages

Efficiency: LEDs emit more light per watt than incandescent light bulbs Their efficiency is not affected by shape and size, unlike fluorescent light bulbs or tubes.

Lifetime: LEDs have a long useful life, estimating 35,000 to 50,000 hours of useful life, but reports have shown that many LED fitted in 1960's and 70's are still in operation. Fluorescent tubes typically are rated at about 10,000 to 15,000 hours, depending on the conditions of use, and incandescent light bulbs at 1,000–2,000 hours.

Slow failure: LEDs mostly fail by dimming over time, rather than the abrupt failure of incandescent bulbs

Cool light: In contrast to most light sources, LEDs radiate very little heat that can cause damage to sensitive objects or fabrics. Wasted energy is dispersed as heat through the base of the LED.Size: LEDs can be very small (smaller than 2 mm2) and are easily populated onto tight spaces

Shock resistance: LEDs, being solid state components, are difficult to damage with external shock, unlike fluorescent and incandescent bulbs which are fragile.

On/Off time: LEDs light up very quickly, typically achieving full brightness in under a microsecond.

The installation of LED lighting in the shopfitting and refrigeration industry is rapidly on the increase. More and more of The Jordon Group's shopfitting projects are now requesting LEDs to be installed in refrigerators, freezers and shelving. Retail owners are seeing the benefits of reduced energy costs, durability and the appeal of improving the look of their store due to the super bright qualities. This figure is set to rise again in 2012 with the greater need to lower carbon footprint and reduce costs.

Malcolm's Store Coventry is set for an Efficient Future with The Jordon Group

A store which has an "acute sense of shoppers' changing needs" is now finely tuning into the needs of the environment. The Jordon Group has installed a new LED lighting system in their £40,000 re-fit; blasting the local family owned Costcutter Store in Coventry into the 21st Century. The dull, expensive lighting has been removed and replaced with super bright LED lighting which combines cost reduction, energy efficiency and heightened visual appeal for the customer. 123 lights were fitted in total to the cabinets, including dairy cabinets, freezers and shelving, bringing an entirely new feel to the store. Owner, Paul Cheema comments on his store,

"...the new ligthing helps to highlight different areas in the store. The off-licence in particular benefits from the daylight spotlights, which combine with new silver lettered signposting, black walls and a wood-effect floor to give the category a premium feel. This is certainly going down a storm with customers who have likened the store to an upmarket Waitrose."

A Spar is Born!

The future looks bright for the new to industry Spar in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. The newly completed 243sqm store embraces the latest energy saving technologies and is fully equipped with everything a convenience store shopper would need, and more.

What was once a Kwik-Fit car workshop and sat dormant for 11 years has been lovingly restored by The Jordon Group into a modern, spacious shopping dream. This brand new Spar is kind to the environment and is sure to be a hit with the local residents.

Owner Nigel Shorthouse has worked in the retail industry for over 30 years and it really shows. This is his first store which he had planned to perfection prior to the build and due to his lengthy retail experience expectations were naturally very high.

“I have been planning this store for 18 months now. I knew this was a great spot because it’s the only shop this side of the river (in Bridgnorth centre). There’s a huge car park and it’s what shoppers want these days, they don’t want to go into the town centre and walk”.

A lot of building work had to be done but this didn’t deter Nigel. The biggest problem was changing the look of the store from a Kwik-Fit into a Spar. To do this the two folding metal shutters along the side of the building were encased and hidden to give the appearance of a wall and an auto door fitted at the front of the building to create the new entrance.

The large open floor space inside had to reflect that of a convenience store. Internal walls were built, cladded and plastered six times to create strength and the entirety was insulated. Space was left open in the back for receiving goods in and out and for placement of the cold room.

The in-store bakery was built and ultra modern equipment installed, ceramic floor tiles fitted for durability and visual appeal, lighting and electrics, signage, air conditioning, shelving and refrigeration all installed and fitted with precision.

Owner Nigel wanted the highest quality, most energy efficient equipment in his store. All equipment used by The Jordon Group is ECA approved and installed by F Gas certified engineers. Being main UK distributers of market leaders "Arneg Refrigeration", imported directly from Italy, The Jordon Group recommended their products. The most popular Arneg Panama 2 was used in varying sizes and finishes to create a stunning looking dairy display for milk, cooked meats and cheeses, ready meals, desserts, soft drinks and local produce. Arneg’s shelving system “AMX-35” was also used for quality, durability and affordability. Jordon’s Glass Double Door Freezer JRX-1300-NV was installed with LED lighting to maximise visibility for the consumer whilst lowering energy costs.

One of the most crucial elements for Nigel during the build was adhering to the building regulations. The problem he faced was the need to keep noise to a minimum due to the close proximity of the residents. Although the ECA approved condensing units are low noise, Nigel wanted to be 100% certain he would not upset the residents. The Jordon Group’s solution was to install a heavy duty extraction unit, reducing noise levels to an absolute minimum without interfering with the condensing units. This greatly benefitted Owner Nigel and meant that he could maintain the 5 year warranty on his J&E Halls’ condensers, reduce carbon footprint and adhere to the building regulations at the same time.

After the successful opening of his first store, Nigel reflects on the hard work that was involved from start to finish…

“I was on-site the whole time working alongside the team step by step and it went perfectly. There was a slight hiccup with the tiling but Jordon’s’ sorted it out and the job was finished two days earlier than planned. The lads showed great workmanship and gelled together very well. They worked exactly to schedule and they even cleaned up after themselves! I’ve got more plans for the store too - like a cash machine and a greater selection of convenience food which will hopefully bring in more customers. I’m so happy with my new store and will definitely be using Jordon’s’ again in the future”.

Mr. Shorthouse is already planning his next store and looks forward to his bright future.

The glamorous Retail Industry Awards took place on 22nd September at The Park Plaza Hotel in London.

Now entering their 16th year, the Retail Industry Awards remain the only awards of their kind where the whole industry gets together to celebrate everyone from the smallest independent retailers to the largest supermarket groups.

Testimonial - Bush Hill Service Station, Pembroke

The Jordon Group has very proudly received outstanding praise for one of their recent projects.

An entire shop fit was recently completed at Bush Hill Service Station in Pembroke and has been given very high levels of appreciation from Owner, Darren Biggs.

Darren took over the Service Station in April 2011 which was a Texaco and Londis site. It was a lucrative venture and a great location and Darren saw an opportunity to create something outstanding. His decision was to change the store into a Total and Costcutter, which could have been a risky one considering the store's current success.

After contacting The Jordon Group and arranging a date for the re-fit, the store was transformed within four days to Darren's astonishment.

"The entire shop fit was like a military operation. I cannot commend The Jordon Group enough. I come from an Engineering background and I can honestly say the team operated with complete precision. When they said the flooring would go in at 2 o'clock, the flooring went in at 2 o'clock. And when they said the lighting would go in at 5 o'clock, the lighting went in at 5 o'clock. I've used other shop fitting companies in the past and The Jordon Group completely showed them up. To say the entire job was completed flawlessly in four days is completely incredible, I'm amazed".

The new site has been open for just over a month now and has experienced record breaking success. The store has seen weekly sales go from £18,000 to £25,000 and the new shop fit has also had a knock on effect on the fuel. From what used to generate 39,000 litres, fuel sales are now seeing an increase to 45,000 litres per week.

The Jordon Group would like to sincerely thank Darren for his generosity in expressing his gratitude, and wish him the best of luck for continual growth and prosperity in the future. Congratulations!

This year a record number of The Jordon Group's projects have been shortlisted to win an award, which gives us great pleasure and recognition that we are good at what we do.

Here at Jordon's, we would like to congratulate Euro Garages for making it to the finals of the Northern England category for their Beehive Service Station in Blackburn, Lancashire. Please see pictures below of this very eye catching store, which we're sure you'll agree really is award winning!

The ceremony takes place on Thursday 22nd September 2011 at The Hilton Park Lane Hotel, London. The Jordon Group would like to wish Euro Garages and Beehive Service Station the best of luck on the evening!
