Retail Development: myCostcutter brand is launched in Moygashel Northern Ireland

The Jordon Group are proud to have completed the store development on the first myCostcutter store to open in Northern Ireland.

The 4,000 square foot state-of-the-art store is the first of its kind to open outside of England and is set to create thirty plus jobs in the Moygashel area.

The new Costcutter store resides in what was the old Stanley Cooker building and has been lovingly restored by The Jordon Group into a modern, spacious, convenience shoppers' dream. This brand new store features the stand out black, red and lime green fascia which denotes the higher end myCostcutter and sets to differentiate itself from other convenience stores in the market place. The new black fascia offers the full package, staying loyal to Costcutter values whilst encorporating the sleek new colours, spacious layout and sumptuous textures throughout store; maintaining the high end interior design.

There is a butchery counter, deli counter, hot food and an ATM and is run by Lurgan man Melvin Moutray, who says it will be a great boost to the Moygashel area. “There will be 30 plus jobs being created and it's a big boost for the local area," he said. "We saw an opening here for a good sized supermarket to serve the people of Moygashel and the wider area. There will also be ample car parking space on the land, with anything up to 100 cars potentially accommodated". The Moutray family have been in retail for 52 years, and already own two Costcutters stores, one in Lurgan and the other in nearby Dollingstown .“We have a lot of contacts in the area," says Melvin, "there was a Costcutter here before seven or eight years ago which did well and hopefully it'll be the same for us". Melvin says he is keen to have a good relationship with the people of Moygashel and is happy the store is opened.“This has been in planning since last November so is fantastic to eventually get it up and running. We are here to work with the people of Moygashel."

Londis Hull

Trade is booming at Londis Hull

The store opening went fantastically well on Saturday 8th September 2012 with sales up by 10%. Considering there were over 80,000 locals attending a festival in the City it is a delightful result.

The customer reaction was tremendous, they could not believe the transition that had taken place in such a short period of time and the quality of the development, they were also very impressed with the depth of range throughout the store especially on fresh produce.

It took a tremendous effort over the last two weeks to get there, with everyone having to go that extra mile to overcome all the hurdles and there were many, not at least the fact that the store was without power until 17.00 on Thursday night!

Here at Jordon's we would like to say what is a fantastic addition to the Londis brand the store is. It will be an excellent example to help drive recruitment and development in the Hull area. Jay and his family have also asked to pass on their thanks, and you could see how proud they were of the store when all of their guests and family arrived for the opening ceremony at 10.00 on Saturday. Jay will be an great retailer and ambassador for Londis and he literally could not stop smiling on the opening day.

We wish Jay and his family the best of luck with his new store and hope to work with him again in the near future.

Costcutter Exhibition 2012

Following the success of last years' prestigous 25th year anniversary celebrations, the leading symbol group is once again staging its one day exhibition and gala dinner in Birmingham.

As part of Costcutter Supermarkets Group's pledge to give its retailers the very best opportunities to increase sales and profit, an additional £1m has been injected into the deals available to retailers attending the showpiece event.

160 suppliers will be attending the exhibition, including ourselves to show support as Costcutters' approved Shopfitting Contractors.

Costcutter Mansfield

After weeks of hard work we are delighted to announce the opening of the new Costcutter Mansfield convenience store.

The store and surrounding area has been completely re-built to turn the former run down "Jenny Beckets" c-store to what it is today.

The entire project took 8 weeks from start to finish and was completed on time and within budget. Considering the amount of building works which had to be done i'm sure you will agree this is pretty good going.

The new look store is fullly equipped with the latest in energy saving technologies including ECA approved Arneg refrigeration and JRX freezers, fusion scroll condensing units and super efficient air conditioning equipment. The store also encorporates the new look Costcutter "White" fascia which features the clean lines of Intrac Shelving adding a bright and airy feel to the store.

Kwiksave is Reborn!

After going into administration five years ago Kwiksave is finally back on the high street.

The Kwiksave chain was bought by budget supermarket group Costcutter and has plans to open stores country wide.The first flagship Kwiksave store opened in Bolton, Little Lever and has been completely redeveloped by the Jordon Group.

Previously a Premier Store, the commercial property has been lovingly restored and fitted out to a very high specification. New energy efficient refrigeration and air conditioning were installed, Intrac Shelving used throughout the store for durability and quality and a bespoke counter was designed to the owner's specification.

Owner and store director Bav Parekh said:

"It’s been absolutely amazing, we’ve had a very positive reaction from the public and a real uplift of new customers who didn’t used to shop with us."

The Jordon Group would like to wish Bav and his team the best of luck with the new Kwiksave store and hope to work with him again in the near future.

Londis Hackney

There's a real buzz in the air in Hackney at the moment. As one of the Six Olympic Host Borough's, alongside Newham, Barking, Dagenham, Greenwich and Waltham Forest, the Olympic countdown has definitely begun.

Over the years Hackney has experienced some dramatic changes. From what used to be a slum housing industrial workers in the early 1900's, to now playing a major part in the Hosting of the Olympic Games, the developments are phenomenal.

To contribute to Hackney's regeneration is the current opening of a fully redeveloped Londis Convenience Store.

The C-Store, which was purchased 2 years ago by Gurjiit Gill and has been untouched for the past 25 years, has been lovingly restored by The Jordon Group to what it is today. The newly completed 150sqm store embraces the latest energy saving technologies and is fully equipped with everything a convenience store shopper would need, and more.

Owner Gurjiit Gill is thrilled with the outcome and is glad his new store is open in time for the Olympics. He comments...

"The entire developement took two weeks to complete. I wanted it to be done as soon as possible and ready for the Olympics so I am over the moon with the short amount of time it took to finish. The team have worked very hard to get the store to what it is today. The Post Office remained open throughought the build - I am very impressed and it has been a prevledge to work with such a dedicated team".

The store is in a great location close to Victoria Park and is very central to the Olympic proceedings. Hackney's current population of over 200,000 people is set to increase ten fold with the up and coming events, which will hopefully also reflect Mr Gill's footfall and sales.

Euro 2012

To celebrate the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, we would like to offer each and every one of our customers 15% discount on bottle coolers.

Euro 2012 is hosted this year by Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012. It is the first time that either nation has hosted the tournament. This bid was chosen by UEFA's Executive Committee in 2007. The final tournament features 16 nations, the last European Championship to do so (from Euro 2016 onward, there will be 24 finalists). Qualification was contested by 51 nations between August 2010 and November 2011 to join the two host nations in the tournament. The winner of the tournament gains automatic entry to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup hosted by Brazil.

England have been drawn to play in Group D alongside France Sweeden and Ukraine

Three of these matches in Group D will be played from the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, capacity 60,000, along with the semi-final and the final.

The first of England's games will be held on Monday 11th June against France. The second on Friday 15th June against Sweeden and the third on Tuesday 19th June against Ukraine.

Costcutter Rendlesham, Suffolk

Rendlesham in Suffolk is a small village which until the mid 1990's was an RAF American air base and is still actually known locally as RAF Bentwaters.

When the base closed in the 90's, leaving just 400 RAF homes on site, housing developers moved in and commenced building new housing. Currently, there are now 1700 new homes on site.

Seven years ago and with the support of Costcutter, Mr and Mrs Rosser moved into and converted what was the American Burger Bar in Rendlesham village, into the 2,300 sq ft supermarket they trade from today. The local post office was also purchased and brought into the new shop and from a standing start in September 2004 the supermarket has grown in line with the village. Last year the turnover reached 1.5 million and is on course this year to achieve 1.6million.

The store was completely refurbished by the Jordon Group in November 2011 and has received a fantastic response from its customers seeing an increase in turnover and footfall. Turnover is up 8% ahead of last year since the refit in November and is set to continue rising year on year. Owner Mrs Rosser is delighted with the results and the Jordon Group.

She comments, "We've seen a fantastic transformation of the store . In particular the off license , the low island dairy case and the new super bright microlights which have completely transformed the place. Sales are 8% ahead of the same period last year. Thanks to the professional way in which the shop fitting and merchandising teams brought it all together".

Planning shop refurbishment?

If you’ve been inspired to open a retail store or carry out some much needed refurbishment, don’t be daunted by the tasks you need to accomplish before you launch your new look store: with careful planning and a little help from the retail display specialists you can bring your dreams to reality – sharpish!

Here are some of the important things to keep in mind when you are planning a retail sales and display area that will maximise visual impact and most importantly - sales!

The style of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment you install will depend on climatic conditions in your area, the size of your retail space, and whether temperature control is needed to preserve the shelf life of stock.

Have air conditioning equipment installed where it works most efficiently. Air conditioning experts will be able to discuss this with you during their site survey, but bear in mind that it needs to be easily accessible for cleaning and maintenance without disturbing your retail display or interrupting store operations.

When choosing flooring for your store, consider the weight of retail display units and the practicalities of cleaning as well as comfort and appearance. A carpeted floor may be practical in a fashion store, for example, but ceramic or vinyl floor tiles may be a better choice for a convenience or food store where there is a risk of spillages staining carpets. Again retail design consultants will be able to give the best flooring advice you can find.

Renewing the lighting in your store is an opportunity for you to have cost saving energy efficient LED lighting installed. For added flexibility, have dimmers so that you can change the atmosphere from light and bright to sultry and romantic at the twirl of a button!

Arneg Launches Osaka 2

SAFEcontractor Accredited

The Jordon Group is one of the latest successful companies to join a leading edge scheme, designed to help industry improve its safety record.

The Jordon Group, based in Lancashire recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practise amongst UK contractors.

Employing 75 people, the Jordon Group is principally involved in Shopfitting solutions - housing its own team of expert joiners; and the installation, service and maintenance of Commercial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning services.

Specialising in the Construction and HVAC industries and with a £10 million turnover, the Jordon Group’s most recent clients have included major players such as Costcutter, Londis, Spar, Nisa-today’s, Mace, the Perfume Shop and the Post Office.

Managing Director Paul Jordon commented, “At the Jordon Group we’re committed to delivering the highest levels of safety standards and quality. We feel this accreditation further affirms our dedication to excellence in all aspects of our business practice.”

SAFEcontractor accreditation is expected to enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.

Penny Petroleum Service Station-Alloa Scotland

We are proud to announce the completion of a new Penny Petroleum development in Alloa, Scotland. From what was once an ex-showroom and offices has now been lovingly restored to what it is today - an ultra modern petroleum forecourt with plush seating area.

Owner, David Penny carefully planned the store layout and design with Jordon's Retail Design Consultant, Graham Fraser. Penny wanted a much higher specification of refit than Penny Petroleum have previously done in the past and had the idea for a comfortable relaxation area for his customers. From his specification, Fraser put together a tailor made CAD design of the store and schedule of works.

Work commenced removing internal walls to create a sales area of 153 square metres. Drop ceilings were fitted to create features over the refrigeration, the counter area and the seating area.

Following this came the fitting of a new porcelain floor, a suspended ceiling with a high specification lighting layout, a low height island chiller and upright freezers.

For ease of entrance for the customers, automatic sliding doors were fitted and new window sections toward the front of the store to enable light to flow through.

After completion of the project and opening of the site, David Penny commented, "I'm really happy with the new image. I wanted a much higher specification than we usually have and that is definitely what Jordon's have acheived. I now intend to replicate this on future projects".

The Jordon Group are currently designing future projects alongside Penny Petroleum and look forward to working with them again in the very near future.

Londis Bromley

The Jordon Group are delighted to announce the opening of a new Londis store. The entire redevelopment was completed by the Jordon Group to transform what was once a run down video rental store into this ultra modern convenience store in the London Borough of Bromley.

Store owner Mr. Patel commented, " I am thrilled with the look of my new store, it has totally exceeded my expectations. Jordon's were great, very professional and efficient".

Mr Patel worked closely with his Retail Design Consultant Steve Harris throughout the project. Carefully planning the layout of the store, lighting, energy efficient equipment, shelving, flooring, counter, ceilings, plumbing, signage and security systems. The tailor made package and schedule was put together and work commenced on this entire shop fit.

Following the recent opening of his new Londis Convenience Store on Randlesdown Road in Bromley, Mr. Patel gushed, " the customers love it, they keep commenting on how good it looks and how handy it is that they now have a local store. I have been very busy since the day we opened and sales figures are exceeding the forecasted already. I'd like to thank Jordon's for all their hard work and getting the store opened for me so fast".

Retrofit Doors-Refrigeration

Are you tired of ever increasing energy bills? Literally fear the bill dropping through the door and can't imagine where such figures came from?

Here at the Jordon Group we know how stressful things can get without the worry of soaring energy costs. That's why we're letting you into a little secret... the biggest energy saving a convenience retailer can make is to put doors on your chillers.

Retrofit doors on chillers have become big business in the industry over the past year. By fitting doors to your chillers you can save up to a quarter on your refrigeration costs, and when you take into account that refrigeration makes up 60% of the average store's power use, that's money worth saving.

The doors can be hinged doors opening outwards towards the customer, or sliding. With hinged doors it is important to have enough isle space as open doors take 40cm. If space is a problem in your store then sliding doors maybe a better solution.

After the decision of door choice has been made, you may then want to consider LED lighting. This again will save energy costs (see our story on LED lighting) and also provide greater illumination as fitting doors to chillers will reduce ambient light by 20%.

Costcutter owner, Jane Parsons at the Old School Store in Woebley had doors fitted to her chillers...

"We had had the doors fitted in January and we have seen huge cost savings already. We have calculated that we're saving 50KW per day. We have 9.25 metres which equals an estimated saving of 10p per KW, roughly saving £5.00 per day, £35.00 per week, £1,820.00. Of course we have not been through the summer months yet so this is likely to increase considerably should we go through a hot spell. Based on the current figures we have estimated payback to within 5 years. However we expect this to be earlier when we re-negotiate our electricity price as the only way electricity appears to be going is up!"

The benefits are not just cost saving, doors on chillers make shopping a better experience for customers. No longer will your store be ice cold due to open fronted chillers expelling cold air, your store will remain at an ambient temperature - pleasant to shop. Products also benefit from a longer shelf life thanks to chiller doors. There is less waste as food products are kept at an optimum temperature.

If you decide that chiller doors are the way forward for your store, then you need to decide on whether to retrofit your existing chillers, or go the whole hog and install new chillers with doors. Ultimately, it comes down to how old your equipment is. If your chiller is over eight years old, you may need to think about changing the whole case.

Introducing doors to your chillers can seem daunting, but in the long-run you can save thousands. "This is the quickest, fastest way to save money", says Managing Director Paul jordon. "It's good for the pocket, the planet, and the product is a case of sooner done, sooner saved."

Gowy Service Station - Chester

The Jordon Group are delighted to announce that works are now complete on Gowy Service Station in Chester and the site is officially open.

The site has been in development for several weeks but the hard work has most certainly paid off as the results are very impressive.

Full redevelopment was carried out by the Jordon Group and includes a BP forecourt, a Spar, a Subway with seating area, a cash machine, convenience store and parking.

We would like to congratulate Euro Garages on the latest of their ever growing forcourt sites and wish them all best for future success.
